We are surrounded by gender roles from the time we are very small till we grow up into adults. It is present in our conversation, humor and conflict and it used to explain everything we do in our everyday lives. These gender roles, such as what woman do and what men do, have been embedded into our institutions, actions, beliefs and our desires. They appear to us as natural and normal. Many people need to understand the concept that whether or not you are a man or woman, what you do and how you do it does not indicate your role as a human-being. Men can be nurses and women can be construction workers, husbands may be stay at home fathers while their wives work or the other way around. Gender roles do not dictate what someone can and cannot do. They're simply how things have been done in the past. Just be who you want to be!
